In the course of groundwater explorations in the area of Ottobeuren (southwestern Bavaria) a peat section at around 17.5 m below the surface was recovered. It is superimposed by thick, partly conglomerated gravel. These gravels (= Older Cover Gravel) belong to the so called Böhener Feld, which is assumed to be of Donauian age. According to the pollen content, open pine forests with Picea abies and single occurrences of Betula, Picea omorika, Pinus cembra and Larix dominated the landscape. Accordingly, it is probably an interstadial of cool character or an outgoing interglacial.
