The article discusses a study which investigated the sound use and behavior in a killer whale population to inform passive acoustic monitoring studies. Results show that there is no correlation between group size and call rate or call type diversity. It concluded that there is a need to understand the biological roles of acoustic signals and how vocalization patterns vary with behavior among marine mammals.
