A biography of French orientalist Abraham Hyacinthe Anquetil-Duperron is presented. It examines his travels in India to learn the old Persian language and copy Parsee scriptures, noting that he alternated between British and French protection in India. The author reflects on Anquetil-Duperron's time in England and comments on a pamphlet written by orientalist Sir William Jones that attacked Anquetil-Duperron's reputation and his criticisms of orientalists at England's Oxford University.
