The article focuses on the Innovation-form or I-form organization and the knowledge-based theory of the firm. An overview of the evolution of business and organizational models in the economic eras of standardization, market segmentation, and market exploration, the emergence of the innovation era and the I-form organization in the 1970s, the examples of entrepreneurial collaboration at Syndicom and Blade.org which are collaborative communities of firms, the governance structure of I-form organizations, and collaborative knowledge sharing are discussed.
