The article presents a study on the relative importance of patch area and perimeter area ratio to grassland breeding birds. It mentions that habitat fragmentation has been projected as a prime reason for population decline in grassland birds. It highlights that the probability of existence of Grasshopper Sparrows, Bobolinks, Upland Sandpipers and Western Meadowlarks was also correlated with area. It states that species richness is maximized when patches are large.
