The article comments on papers featured in the December 2001 issue of the periodical "The International Journal of Logistics Management." Since the 1990s, both industry and academe have broadened their perspective to include the supply chain. Most of the studies featured in the periodical deal with supply chain management. Fundamental issues such as processes and relationships within the extended supply chain are emphasized. The papers reflect the emerging view that recognizes that competitive advantage increasingly derives from the supply chain and the manner by which it is managed.
