The article discusses the results of a study investigating the expression and characteristics of the genes encoding azoreductases from the bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Geobacillus stearothermophilus. The genes of the bacteria encoded proteins with 174 amino acids. There was a similarity between the amino acid sequences of the two bacteria. The enzymes were capable of decolorizing azo dyes into colorless compounds.
