The article presents a review of experimental data which can be used for validation of the two-phase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) application to critical heat flux (CHF) investigations. It highlights the state-of-the-art modeling within the NURESIM Project of the Sixth European Framework Program. Furthermore, it explores the basic flow thermal-hydraulic processes for the development of better CHF predictions in both boiling water reactor (BWR) and pressurized water reactor (PWR).
