This article presents a study which examines the severity of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) using a qualitative grading system based on the morphologic appearance of the dural sac as seen on the magnetic resonance images of lumbar spine. It notes that an increasing number of patients are being diagnosed with LSS and this study is an effort to improve a grading system for diagnosing LSS. It concludes that the qualitative grading system defines stenosis in different subjects than surface measurements alone.
