The article discusses research on disaster preparedness among linguistically isolated groups using the community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach. The study used CBPR approach on four population groups that are linguistically isolated in Houston, Texas including Chinese, Vietnamese and Spanish-speaking groups and the challenges including translating group questions from English to other languages. Results indicated the importance of using geographic information system (GIS) in locating study areas and facilitating CBPR.
