The article presents a study that examines the surface mass balance (SMB) and runoff exciting the Watson River drainage basin in Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland from 1978-1979 - 2007-2008. The researchers quantify the terrestrial freshwater output form part of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) and the land between the GrIs and the ocean during increased temperatures and precipitation. The study reveales a 8 to 30 years of negative SMB due to the relatively low annual net precipitation.
