Most patients presenting to the DEU neither have real emergencies nor require hospital referrals. This is comparable to the high percentage of discharged patients (87.1%) presenting to the general emergencies unit for a dermatologic condition.5 It is also consistent with a previous study in 2014 in our department.2 However, hospitalization rate from the DEU decreased from 1.2% to 0.38%. Characteristics of patients who needed a hospital referral (hospitalization, follow-up, day care hospital) were compared with those who did not. [Extracted from the article]
