The article presents an evidence-based review concerning the effectiveness and safety of intrauterine contraception in women. Information on the two types of intrauterine devices, the copper-bearing intrauterine device (IUD) and the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNGIUS), were presented. The authors note that copper IUD and LNG-IUS are more cost-effective than the combined oral contraceptive pills and injectable contraceptives.
