In fluid distribution system, if the overload exists in the pipeline, especially in the bend regions, the study of pressure deformation in the pipelines is very essential. This study mainly investigates the effect of ovality in pipe bends with respect to the pressure variations. Free boundary and a pipe attached to oval sections were considered in this study. This investigation deals with the total deformation in the pipes by considering the ovality changes, which range from 0-20% by applying the pressure varying from 0.1-2.7 N/mm². The deflection and failure loads were analyzed by using ANSYS FEM software packages. This study shows that the effect of ovality in pipe bends is inversely proportional to the total deformation. Though the total deformation of the pipe bends depends upon ovaity factor, this investigation suggests that the effect of ovality in attached pipes also plays a vital role. It leads to the improvement in the quality of pipe bends for an efficient use in hydrogen reformer and other pipelines related to the processing industries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
