In this study the microbial attack of Bacillus megaterium bacteria on mechanical properties of Al-Cu alloy has been investigated. The microstructural features and electrochemical behaviour of alloy samples immersed in controlled and inoculated medium under aerobic conditions were examined through scanning electron microscope and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy respectively. The scattering of phase angle at low frequency and lower pitting resistance after initial 7 days than 14 days with increase in pitting capacitance was attributed to sever deterioration of specimen surface by synergistic action of chloride and bacteria. The considerable damage to the tensile strength and hardness by microbiological influenced corrosion was in support to the electrochemical results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
