A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology explores the use of glycyrrhizic acid (GA) in improving skin barrier damage caused by photodynamic therapy (PDT) in patients with port-wine stains (PWS). The study involved 58 patients who received PDT treatment and were divided into a GA group and a control group. After 4 weeks of using a GA-based medical dressing, the GA group showed significant improvement in skin roughness and skin barrier function compared to the control group. The study suggests that GA may have immunoregulatory properties that can effectively improve PDT-induced skin damage and may have potential as a treatment for dermatitis.
