A strategy that combined copper catalysis and visible light photocatalysis was realized herein. With diazomalonates as starting material, the Csp3–H bond of tetrahydrofuran and 1,4-dioxane was elegantly functionalized in yields ranging from 22 to 57%. Following the developed protocol, 17 tetrahydrofuryl- and dioxanylmalonates, including (S)-(–)-perillyl alcohol derivative, were synthesized under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, this dual catalytic system was successfully extended to the transformation of sulfonyl diazo ester. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
