The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of vitreoretinal surgery advancement for the treatment of primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). It says that sclera buckling procedures (SBP) can lower incidence of cataract and can offer frequent induction of postoperative myopia. It mentions that vitrectomy can remove intraocular media opacities and vitreous traction; however it can also contribute to the development or progression of nuclear sclerotic cataracts in phakic eyes.
