The article presents a case study of a 58-year-old male with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) who received a non-myeloablative unrelated donor stem cell transplant. The HHV-6 encephalitis diagnosis was made on the basis of the qualitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) result and characteristic autopsy findings. The study suggests the need for HHV-6 encephalitis to be continued in the differential diagnosis of altered mental status in a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipient.
