천상병 시의 공간과 시간

영문초록 : Chyun Sang-Byung who Wrote「River Water」was recommended by Yu Chi-Hwan in「MunYe」in 1952 first time. He is a pure poet who expresses pure lyricism till breathe his last after he began to act in the literary world at the same time 「The Gull」was recommended by Mo Yun-Suk. This thesis divided the aspect about his poem world to space-oriented quality and time-oriented quality. 'The Sky' in his poetry is the symbol of fastidiousness to overcome the negative reality of life, the intention of the rising longing and the ideal. Also it leads self-recognition which stays in a place to diversity and expresses to space which shows the index of unselfish life. 'The bird' with 'The sky' is shown to the continous core imaginary expression from his first year to the latter period of poet, the symbol of freedom-oriented quality, and the existence of complex symbol which desires rising flight in delight, grief, all exhaustion and solitude of life. Finally, the bird inside his subconsciousness symbolizes liberation, rescue which is the best wish in the suppression, immaturity, restraint, uneasiness, dissatisfication, inferiority complex and so on. So it is the existence that contracts miserable reality world into desirable world. Time-oriented consciousness acts as strongly as space-oriented it in his Poetry. This thesis examined by dividing time consciousness which he has oriented into past, present, future. A sense of alienation inside the poet constantly review the past and intend to world of the child's mind. But the poet shouldn't endlessly fail to the loneliness and grief. He is faced with the alienated place, but places the meaning of living on the alienation on the admiration of life and human existence. This attitude shows rise-oriented desire. After 1970, the poetry world which satisfies actuality have developed. He still shows actuality to the space of poverty and alienation. But he has affirmative reception attitude about actuality to feel happiness through the life of unselfish. The attitude is deeply related to the oriental world view. It supports this relation to thought of Lao-Zhung in many poetries. Morality is the attitude of recurring human mind to nature instinct and forsaking realistic desire through the rapport of nature and life. He gradually established the Chistian world view in the latter period poetry. While he closes his life to the will of a philosophic view and transcendence, he reveals strongly future-oriented will that wants to stay in the Christian peace. Finally the poet's future-oriented will which is based on the Christian pacifism comes back to the contemplation and return to Nature. He doesn't mourn for death. After he dies, he comes back to be a part of Nature and wants to be eternal Nature. Chyun Sang-Byung forsakes worldly fame and wealth and he writes pure poetry to guard himself poetry all his power. The characteristic of his poetry world is divided into three viewpoints. First, it is showed to the viewpoint of substance that is understood to world of pure child's mind, unselfish and purity cross the reality. Second, it is showed to the viewpoint of formality that finds his poetic result in the high level of craftsmanship without craftsmanship with plain power of expression to omit complex poetic rhetoric. Third, it is showed to the viewpoint of thought that is analyzed to oriental symbol through the philosophy of Lao-Zhung. / 한글초록 : 천상병은 40여년의 긴 詩歷을 가졌음에도 불구하고, 그의 시세계에 대한 본격적인 논의가 이루어 지지 않고 있다. 대부분이 단평이나 월평에 그치고 있고, 그나마도 논자들은 천상병의 시세계보다는 기인적인 삶을 더 비중있게 다루어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 순수 감정을 맑고 투명하게 그린 천상병의 독특한 시세계를 고찰하고, 시에 대한 전반적인 분석 검토를 통해서 시세계의 주된 경향과, 그의 시가 지향하는 의식의 특성을 추출함을 연구 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 천상병의 발표시 전편을 대상으로 하고 평론과 번역시는 연구 범위에서 제외 시켰다. 연구 방법으로는 단순한 편연대기적 이해를 지양하고 작품 자체에 충실을 기하며, 작품의 이해를 위해서는 분석적 방법을, 그 이미지 추출에 있어서는 현상학적 방법을 원용하여 살펴보았다. 본고는 천상병 시세계에 대한 양상을 크게 공간 지향성과 시간 지향성의 두 축으로 대별하여, 공간 지향성에서는 「상승적 동경」과 「상승적 비상」으로 세분하여 작품을 분석하였다. 그에게 있어 '하늘'은 삶의 부정적 현실에서 벗어난 결벽성의 표상으로, 한 곳에 머무르고 마는 자아인식을 다양성으로 이끌기도 하고, 욕심없는 삶의 지표를 제시하는 공간으로 나타나기도 한다. '하늘'과 더불어 '새'는 초기시부터 후기시까지 지속적으로 나타나는 핵심 이미저리로 자유 지향성의 표상이며 기쁨과 슬픔 그리고 삶의 고달픔과 외로움 속에서 상승적 비상을 염원하는 복합적인 상징의 존재로 나타난다. 결국 그의 잠재의식 속의 새는 억압, 미숙, 구속, 불안, 불만, 열등감 등에서의 해방과 구원이며 최고의 소망인 자유를 상징하는 것이다. 시간 지향성에서는 그가 지향하는 시간의식을 「과거 회상적 의지」,「현실 만족적 삶」, 「미래 지향적 의지」로 세분하여 작품분석을 시도하였다. 시인의 내면에 깊이 자리한 소외감이 외로움과 슬픔의 정서와 연결되면서 끊임없이 과거를 회상하며 동심의 세계로 돌아가고자 한다. 1970년을 지나면서 현실 만족적 시세계가 펼쳐진다. 현실은 여전히 가난과 소외의 공간으로 제시되고 있지만 가난을 긍정하는 무욕의 삶을 통하여 행복을 느끼는 긍정적 현실 수용 태도를 보인다. 후기시에서부터 기독교적 세계관이 점차 확립되어 가는데, 그는 자신의 생을 달관과 초월의 의지로 마감하며 기독교적 평화에 안착될 내세를 염원하는 미래 지향적 의지를 강하게 드러낸다. 기독교적 평화주의에 입각한 시인의 미래지향적 의지는 결국 관조와 자연귀의로 귀착된다. 죽음과 동시에 자연의 일부로 돌아가 영원한 자연으로 남기를 소망하는 것이다. 천상병은 세속적 명리를 떨쳐버리고 온 힘으로 자신의 새를 지킨 진정한 의미의 순수한 시를 쓴 시인이다. 그의 시세계의 특징은 티없이 맑고 순연한 동심의 세계와 현실을 초월한 무욕과 순진무구의 세계로 파악되는 내용적인 관점과, 복잡한 시적 수사법 따위가 극도로 생략된 채 단순하면서도 평이한 표현력으로, 기교없는 기교의 높은 관점, 그리고 노장철학을 통한 동양적 명징성으로 분석되는 사상적 관점으로 요약된다. 본고에서는 그의 문학활동의 중요한 영역이 평론과 번역시의 연구가 뒤따르지 못하였다. 평범한 이상론과 공박론이 아닌, 보다 고차원적인 입장에서 작품세계를 파헤치려는 노력을 보였다고 평가되는 그의 평론에 대한 연구가 깊이있게 수행되어야 할 줄 안다.
