영문초록 : Literature reflects the life of a society by reflecting on an individual life in that given society.The desires of typical human beings appear in the desires of the characters in literary works.Thus,we can see the public consciousness of our society's past from characters in old Korean novels. In this thesis, I studied Jongokiun, Baebijangjun, Ohyouranjun, Yichonpungjun, and Samsungi as social satirists. The purpose of this thesis is to show the types of characters that have an exceptionally large sexual appetite.In order to approach this subject, I have divided the given characters into leading and supporting roles. I have studied certain groups of people,their ability to enjoy various situations,and the sexual actions of these people. Most of the leading roles are members of the nobility who disguise themselves as moral human beigns and emphasize this morality to the "common people". But, in reality, these "moral" members of the nobility are nothing more than prostitutes. This characteristic shows that the social class of an individual does not signify their moral level. The nobility just has the capability to disguise their sexual desires. However, because of their ill feelings towards social rules, these people very bluntly shoved their sexual desires in their sexual actions. A majority of the leading roles that are portrayed as temptresses are the prostitutes. These individuals showed the hidden sexual desires of the nobility. They also enjoyed making fun of dominating men by having sexual desires which could be comparable to "male desires". The whit and intelligence of these prostitutes illustrates that, in reality, they were actually very positive and active women. The group of supporting roles includes rival groups of the nobility. They attempted to reveal the sexual actions of the first group of nobility, and thus reveal their true moral fiber. Finally, there were the "onlooking" supporting roles. Most of these characters were the servants of the nobility. These individuals helped the rival nobility destroy the first group of nobility. They also were the ones who originally influenced the "moral" noble group to visit the prostitutes in the first place. In this study, I've discovered the difference between the nobilities' sexuality and that of the common people. In general, the sexual consciousness of nobility is hipocritical, while the consciousness of common people is generally very plain and honest. In this thesis, I studied sexuality as a major part of human nature to prove the equality of all people, regardless of their social class. I regret that I did not deal with other novels which dealt with this subject. In the future, I want to study the difference between this kind of novel and romantic novels. / 한글초록 : 문학작품은 그 작품이 만들어진 시대와 그 시대를 살아가는 인생의 반영이기 때문에 거기엔 그 당시 인간들의 생생한 삶의 모습이 기록되어 있다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 인간 욕망의 의지는 작품속에 등장하는 인물들의 행동과 특성을 통해서 구현된다고 할 때 우리의 古小說에도 등장인물의 행동을 통해 그 당시의 시대상과 민중의식이 투영되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 본고에서는 諷刺, 諧謔, 滑稽 文學으로서 자주 거론된 종옥전, 배비장전, 오유란전, 이춘풍전, 삼선기 등에 나타난 남녀 주인공의 특성에 공통된 의취가 있음을 파악하고 이들을 주동적 인물과 보조적 인물로 나누어, 性문제를 중심으로 인물의 특징을 살펴보고, 그들의 행동을 통해 나타난 향유집단 의식과 표현의 특징을 알아 보았다. 먼저 주동적 인물로 위장형은 한결같이 양반 사대부로 평민들에게는 엄격한 윤리를 강요하고 도덕군자인 채 행동하다 기생에 의해 발가 벗겨져, 양반도 벗겨보니 평범한 인간이요 철저하게 자신을 위장한 위선적 도덕군자임을 통해 양반도 평민도 똑같다는 동류의식을 느끼게 하는 유형이었다. 그러나 호색형의 인물은 민중의식의 대리인으로 性的 표현의 놀골화 정도가 강함을 알 수 있는 데 이는 평민으로 하여금 대리만족 보다는 그들이 주체가 되어 직접적인 만족감과 함께 위안을 준 것으로 보여지는 데, 그것은 노골화된 性을 통해 規範社會에 대한 거부감과 도전의식의 發露로 풀이되어진다. 유혹형은 한결같이 기생이 양반의 은폐된 好色性을 밝혀 발가벗김으로써 인간보편의 性情으로 끌어 내리는 주체적 역할을 하는 인물들이다. 호색형은 男尊女卑思想에 도전장을 던지 듯, 남성에 대해 대등한 지위를 확보하고 여성들의 性에 대한 갈망을 해소시키는 적극적, 능동적 인물들이다. 보조적 인물로 유동형은 그들도 지배계층으로 그들 앞에서 도덕적 가치를 상승시키고자 하는 인물을 기생을 시켜 好色暴露케 하는 음모자이나 자신도 好色漢으로 수용 주체인 민중의 입장으로 볼 때 망신을 당한 사람은 그들까지도 포함된 지배층 전반에 확대 적용케 한 인물들이다. 또한 방조형은 음모수행자를 도와 상전에 비판적 역할을 수행하면서 양반의 호색성을 은근히 부추기는 역할을 담당하는 인물들인 것이다. 性의 표현에 있어서도 양반과 서민의 차이를 느낄 수 있었다. 양반류 소설의 性的 표현은 문자나 비유를 통한 이율배반적인 모습을 보인데 비해 서민들의 성의식은 적나라하고 노골적임을 알 수 있었다. 이는 양반지배 계층의 껍질을 벗기고, 서민들과의 동위치로 놓아 보겠다는 강한 평등의식의 작용으로 보아진다. 이와 같이 본고에서 규정하 작품들은 인간의 본성인 성을 제재로 하여 僞善的 도덕군자의 好色性을 폭로함으로써 인간의 평등성을 주장했다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 그 과정에서 나타난 적나라한 性的 표현을 통해 민중은 웃음과 해방감을 만끽할 수 있었다. 끝으로 텍스트에 나타난 주동적 인물이 양반과 기녀이나 그들이 등장하는 등장하는 소설을 좀 더 다양하게 다루지 못함과 애정소설류와의 비교는 연구과제로 남는다.
