영문초록 : The painting of the 20th century was by stimulative of paul Cezanne's theory, Van Gohaugh and paul Gauguin's subjective persue of indidual characteristics of shera's scientific method. Matisse, in order to find always new and original way of expression, hops form place to place. We can observe he is trying to do this through his drawing work. His drawing work is realized and imagined by his own method. The traces that he rambles about finding out a peculiar coherence are in his groping in his work of giving shapes and retouching repeatedly. His thchnique is free spirited and his design is a job that gives a sense of utter simplicity. Regarding the coloration, by minimizing the resource of the tinge, he makes the color an independent element of expression. Being free himself from restraint dealing with the subject of nature, he caught only essential ralue in order to express his intention in the theme of nature. In order words, trying to restore to color and fundametal elements, Line and rhythm, he dealed with from and color as he liked. No one tried to deal with these elements before his periods. He was a great emancipator. Matisse's achievement as a drawing artist is great and drawing itself is his artistic autobiography. Lots of Matisse's drawings which have strength and beauty show us his variousness as an artist.
