영문초록 : Kyungdae, a Korean traditional table with brilliance and precision enough to make rooms remarkable, is ornamental as well as practical to be seen as a beauty in our life. Sophisticated and precise techniques and variations for the table which involves characteristics, structures and designs of the Chosun Dynasty's wooden furnitures are more excellent than any other furnitures of any periods. All craftworks are manufactured reflecting people's lifestyles and environments. Similarly, furnitures of the kingdom of Chosun vary in their use as follows. First, Kyungdae consists of steel plates, body and legs, and classified as general, simple and special in terms of type. Second, various materials of Kyungdae include woods, Najuchilki and Hwagak. For woods, ginkgo, zelkova, pine and persimmons trees are used, especially pine trees whose grains are maintained unchanged as soon as possible to represent natural beauty. The table is considered as having been enjoyed mainly by the upper-class, since luxury materials such as Okpan and Daemo, and mother-of-pearl are also used for its decoration and because of its elaborate techniques. Third, golden adornments on Kyungdae are made of white bronze, brass and cast iron in order according to the frequency of use. That is, among the materials, white bronze is mainly used for Kyungdae or Ham(a Korean traditional case) which is smaller and more brilliant than any other room furnitures. Fourth, the adornments including hinges, front plates(Apbatang), iron handles(Dulsoi), rings, locks, Kamjapee, ear ornaments(Keijangsik) and Kwangdoojung are classified as functional, decorative and combinative. They have variations in shape. Yakkwa-shaped hinges, arrow-shaped and bat-shaped iron handles, peach-shaped rings, candle-shaped Kamjapee and flower-shaped ear ornaments are used frequently in most cases. And fifth, decorative designs of Kyungdae are diversified. Like in other furnitures, ten long-living objects(Shipjangsaeng), bats, turtles, peaches, magnolia, flowers and birds, and mountains and rivers are designed to reflect wishes for longevity, happiness, eternal youth and immortality, which is influenced by contemporary social trends. Especially bats are most used for design, since the animals symbolize descendents' prosperity. Included in things designed relatively more are turtles, mandarin ducks, butterflies, flowers and birds, and the Four Gracious Plants. This study on Kyungdae, an excellent and culturally valuable thing, supports formation of newly modern culture and any other academic studies of traditional furnitures. Consequently, Such a systemic and analytic study will give an opportunity of developing modem golden adornments, eventually restoring the beauty, characteristics and strong points of our unique belongings with our own pride and dignity, I hope.
