영문초록 : Ⅰ. Problem The cohesiveness as a group and the morale of its members of an elementary school principal is a prerequisite to and a key factor of achievement of the organizational objectives of the school。The present study therefore attemps to investigate the relationship between the leadership patterns of the principals ate the monte of the teachers in the elementary schools in City of Busan in Korea Ⅱ. Wethods 1) Samples 464 teachers were randomly selected from 116 elementary schools in Busan and 422 (91%) responded to the questionnaires. 2) Tool LBDQ originally devised by Andrew Halpin and adapted by Shin, Hong Kyun was employed for the study. Ⅲ. Hypotheses According to Halpin's model the elementary school principals' leadership patterns are classified into four categories: effective leadership pattern, human-relations-oriented leadership pattern, task-oriented leadership pattern, and ineffective leadership pattern. 1) Under the effective leadership pattern, the morale of the teachers will be higher than that under the human-relations-oriented leadership. (Hypothesis 1) 2) Under the effective leadership pattern, the morale of the teachers will be higher than that under the task-oriented leadership pattern. (Hypothesis 2). 3) Under the ineffective leadership pattern the morale of the teachers will be lowest than under any other leadership pattern. (Hypothesis 3) 4) Under the human-relations-oriented leadership pattern the morale of the teachers wi11 be higher than that under the task-oriented leadership pattern. (Hypothesis 4). Ⅳ. Results 1) Hypothesis 1 was verified at 1% level of significance of the mean difference. (P<.001) 2) Hypoteis 2 was verified at 1% level of significance of the mean difference. (P<.001) 3) Hypothesis 3 was verified to be true. 4) Hypothesis 4 was verified to be true. Ⅴ. Conclusions The leadership pattern of the elementary school principals were positively related to the morale of the elementary teachers. The effective leadership pattern tended to create highest morale among the elementary teachers, followed by the human-relations-oriented pattern, task-oriented pattern, and the ineffective pattern in the descending order。
