520 b영문초록 : The aesthetic origin of the impressionism music can be found in the literature and pictures. Especially in the pictures, it seems to show same thigs with the technique of impressionism. That is, on the contrary the past artist attach great importance to the sketch lines, the impressionism artists are relieving the elements consisting mainly vague atmosphere in stead of distinct atmosphere. In Debussy's music, the impressionismic element is showing the other free organic progree of that is broken from the functional harmony in the harmonic field differently from the method of expression in the traditional music. At the same time, it is using the methods that is connecting the artificial constitution of the musical scale and the piece of melody. Theses things are appearing with the important technique that are shown withe vague image and musical atmosphere of the impressionismic arts. Debussy is leaving a lot of of orchestra works and piano works that are main kinds of not only vocal music piece but also instrumental music piece. Especially in the piano works, he is commanding perfectly the his impressionismic diction. For the impressionismic technique which is specific in the piano works, the whole trailing note of sound that is connecting the harmonic sympathy by using damper pedal, is searching the vague atmosphere of piece. The Bergamasque Suite which of the theme of this thesis is of the early Debussy's work is deviating from the traditional field in the technique of pedal or expecially its conception of harmoney and is releiving to transfer to modern music of 20th century. This Bergamasque Suite is consising prelude, as first piece, Menuet as second piece, Clair de Lune as third piece and Passepied as forth piece totalling four pieces. However, those are far different from the traditional french suites and they are not showing the same formation. And In the composition of Bergamasque Suite use of individual mode of Debussy parelled chord, added chord and altered chord were attempted, and it can be defined as a work of atransition peirod to complete the perfect impressionismic work such as Estampes, Image Ⅰ and Ⅱ that is building the impressionismic diction of first stage.
