영문초록 : The I-Ching is a bulky treasury of thoughts have been carring the whole system of veins in the history of Chinese philosophy. This book has a profound penetration on the universe. The Chinese regard the changing universe as one pattern. The change is the result of the movement of Chi(氣). The movement that chi as an elementary matter(substance) makes produces a periodic circulation through the operation of yin-yang(陰陽). The periodic circulation itself by chi's movement can be said an unchanging principle in the universe which is changing without a break. Yin-yang is a symbolic word to explain the principle and to indicate the polarity which is included in the movement of all beings. It is interpreted as the relation of Yin-Yang-Tui-Tai(陰陽對待). Yin-Yang as the subject of the whole transitions have equal qualification but they have quite a different role in the effect. Yang has an active effect and Yin has a passive effect. So the change of the universe is clue to these mutual operation. The contents of Yi is constituted by making Yin-Yang mutual operation as a pattern. The operation of Yin-Yang is divided into two parts: Jiao-Yi(交易) and Bian-Yi(變易). The main object of this thesis is to explain the principle, condition and purpose of the Yin-Yang operation. To introduce the principle of the operation, the incompatibility of yin-yang and gan-ying(感應) must be explained. Gan-Ying is the consensus based on ging(情) that is the basic spirit of cofucianism. The condition of the changes consists in an extrimity(窮). But a limited situation is what has to get solved at any way. To process from a limited situation to a solved situation, the changes are needed. And these changes ceaselessly go on for the purpose with an intention to the medium(中). The Mediun(中) means 'the only one', 'the whole' or 'the medium extreme(中極)' which keeps up the equilibrium of the both poles that are contained in the category of yin-yang.
