This study investigates small business owners who moved to Jeju, examining how they adapted to the island’s indigenous culture and how it affected their business operations. Utilizing a phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 small business owners who had moved to Jeju more than three years earlier, afterward administering a survey to categorize their acculturation types according to Berry’s acculturation model. In conclusion, building intimate social relationships with indigenous people fromJeju requires cultural adaptation, and small business owners who are categorized as integration and assimilation types have experiences that are beneficial for their business. That is adaptation to the indigenous culture of Jeju helps business owners interact with customers, build their business’s reputation, reduce rental costs, and simplify administrative procedures. Additionally, adapting to Jeju’s indigenous culture leads to two opposite conclusions, subsequent business expansion or leaving Jejuwith a negative perception of the island.
