This study aims to examine the effect of flipped learning on the academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning abilities of Korean learners. In view of this, an experimental approach that employed flipped learning in a beginner-level Korean listening class was designed. The participants comprised 27 individuals in the experimental group and 29 in the control group, all of whom were novice Chinese learners of Korean at N University in China. Over the course of a single semester, spanning 16 weeks, the effectiveness of flipped learning was assessed by comparing pre- and post-test differences in academic self-efficacy, self-directed learning abilities, and academic performance between the two groups. Furthermore, we analyzed learners" satisfaction with the class through a survey. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was observed that flipped learning classes have a positive impact on learners" academic self-efficacy, self-directed learning abilities, and academic achievements. This indicates that flipped learning can enhance the learning attitudes, motivation, persistence, and self-directed learning skills of novice Korean learners, which in turn can help improve their proficiency in the Korean language. Second, class satisfaction was also high, which means that learners had a positive perception of flipped learning classes. Third, there was a positive correlation between academic self-efficacy, self-directed learning abilities, academic achievements, and class satisfaction. Through multiple regression analysis, academic self-efficacy was verified as a factor affecting class satisfaction and self-directed learning ability was substantiated as a factor affecting academic achievements. Thus, it can be concluded that the flipped learning method in a listening class for beginner KFL learners is effective in improving learners" academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning abilities, which in turn positively affects their academic achievements and satisfaction with the class.
