BACKGROUND: METHODS: KEY RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS & INFERENCES: : In the current article, we provide evidence in mice and human that intestinal inflammation associated to manipulation of the intestine is reduced under laparoscopic conditions. Based on these findings, we propose that the reduced inflammatory response of the muscularis external observed after laparoscopic surgery is translated in a faster clinical recovery compared to open surgery.(Figure is included in full-text article.)
