(Abstracted from EBioMedicine 2016;10:298–304)More than 25% of pregnancies are affected by pregnancy failure and placenta-mediated pregnancy complications (PMPCs). Although there is biological plausibility for coagulation activation being an underlying mechanism for a proportion of PMPC events, several trials of antithrombotic intervention in women at risk of PMPC have found it to be ineffective.
