This study is to examine whether news related to international mega events Busan applied for differed depending on the media's regional classification (national newspaper, local newspaper) and partisanship (conservative, neutral, progressive newspapers). For content analysis, the national newspapers included Chosun Ilbo, Hankook Ilbo, and Hankyoreh according to their partisanship, and the local newspapers included Busan Ilbo and Kookje Shinmun in Busan where applied for the 2030 World Expo. The period for the analysis is from December 2020 to June 30, 2023, from the time the national government applied to host the 2030 World Expo and the 4th public PT held about 5 months before the final determination of the host area. For analysis, news characteristics were classified into general characteristics and composition style characteristics. The general characteristics included news section, news type, and news writer, and the composition style characteristics included news topic, news frame, and news tone. The results are as follows. Local newspapers had a higher volume of news than national newspapers and showed high diversity in news types and news writers. Second, regarding news topics, national newspapers had a high proportion of news related to ‘political and diplomatic activities related to hosting,’ while local newspapers had a high proportion of news related to ‘hosting preparation and hosting schedule’ Lastly, the proportion of negative news was high in progressive newspapers, conservative newspapers and neutral newspapers. Based on these results, practical implications were provided on how attracting entity in international mega events should utilize the media to successfully host events.
