Today, with strengthened market economy policies and accelerating economic globalization, Chinese com- panies are interested in increasing their competitive advantage and the importance of leadership in fulfilling this goal. Accordingly, research on leadership is actively being conducted in China. Recently, transformational leadership has been drawn attention in China. This study aims at determining the effects of transformational leadership on subordinates’ social connectedness and the moderating effect of the communication self-efficacy in members. To this end, a survey was conducted on the members of Chinese companies. Out of 400 responses to the final questionnaire, 349 were used for analysis after excluding invalid responses. The analysis results are as follows. First, transformational leadership was found to increase subordinates’ social connectedness. Second, the moderating effect of communication self-efficacy was found to be significant in the relationship between transformational leadership and subordinates’ social connectedness. It is suggested that the influence of members’ bonds with various social networks be considered in future research. Beyond individual roles, individual behavior and performance must also be considered as outcome variables. In addition, as mod- ern communication technology continues to advance, studies that consider situational variables related to com- munication efficiency will also be meaningful.
