Focusing on “Harbin” by Lee Hyo-seok, “Harbin” by Kim Hoon, and “Harbin Harbin” by Park Young-hee, this study explores the shape of the Chinese city Harbin in modern and contemporary Korean literature. Through this, we intend to investigate Harbin's urban image and its historical changes inherent in the three works and make up for the deficiencies in existing studies. Furthermore, this study aims to provide new materials for the author, a Chinese researcher living in Harbin, to study the cultural phenomena and political topography of modern Chinese society, and to suggest new research directions for urban culture. A particular space or place that appears in a literary work often has its own meaning. Therefore, understanding the space in a literary work plays an important role in redefining the overall meaning of the work. If you read a literary work after understanding Harbin's history and culture, you will gain a deeper understanding of the work. This study attempts to explore the importance of the city of Harbin, focusing on “where it happened,” unlike previous literary studies that mainly focused on “what happened.” This research direction is an attempt to understand the social relationship or historical meaning of a specific space or place in a literary work, but it is also important to understand the subject and structure of literature in more depth through the space and place of the literary work. This stems from the view that literary works should be respected not as tools or means but as independent objects or subjects. This is also consistent with the reason to examine literature from a cultural perspective through an understanding of the space and place of literary works. Considering the background of Harbin's growth as an important city in northeastern China after modern times, this study triggers interest in that city. Harbin was already built to imitate Western cities at the end of the 18th century, and in the early 19th century, it developed into an international trade center for China and became an international city for multinational residents. In addition, this study attempts to explore how Harbin came to attention in Chinese society, considering the reason why Harbin was known as the first modern city to be liberated in China and was regarded as a space where European and Asian cultures could interact. However, until now, there has not been much research on Harbin in the literary world. Existing research on the exchange of Korean-Chinese literature has not sufficiently dealt with the important city of Harbin, as it is often focused on a specific period. In order to overcome these limitations, this study aims to pay attention to the shape of Harbin in modern and contemporary Korean literature. This study focuses on the shape of Harbin, which appears in contemporary Korean-Chinese literature. The research methodology deals with Lee Hyo-seok's Harbin, Kim Hoon's Harbin, and finally Park Young-hee's Harbin. Lee Hyo-seok's work deals with the 1940s, and he visited Harbin and wrote during this period. Kim Hoon's work was published in 2022, but it deals with Harbin in the 1910s. Park Young-hee's work is based on Harbin in the early 2000s. The table of contents constructed in this way aims to examine the historical context of the work in consideration of the time of publication of the text. In addition, while considering the difference between the novel and the work of Repo, it emphasizes the spatio-temporal characteristics shared by the two formats. The final goal of the study is to analyze Harbin's shape revealed through these three works and to present a new perspective and research direction on urban culture through this. Through this paper, Harbin's various imaginations and historical meanings were examined. Through this, in Lee Hyo-seok's work, Harbin indirectly expressed his opposition to Japanese colonial rule, and in Kim Hoon's work, he dealt with historical events with an emphasis on the assassination of Ahn Jung-geun. In addition, in Park Young-hee's work, the history and culture of modern Heilongjiang Province were explored through various stories of Heilongjiang Province. In Lee Hyo-seok's work, Harbin acted as a place, medium, and platform, expressing the difficulty of survival of local White Russia and the opposition to Japan's colonial rule. The paper also concluded that it is important for writers to create their own “he” in each era and society, embody their spiritual pursuit through “Harbin,” expand the influence of class literature in the province, and find the values of the times that serve as external engines and mental centers for national independence and liberation. In Kim Hoon's Harbin, the composition focused on An Jung-geun's assassination of Ito Hirobumi, and some of the works confused readers because they were inconsistent with historical facts. However, Kim Hoon's work emphasized that it contributed to the spread of An Jung-geun's assassination and gained popularity. In Park Young-hee's Harbin Harbin, the Manchurian complex and romantic textual content were explored through various stories of Heilongjiang Province. In addition, it was emphasized that Bogo literature underwent drastic changes in the subject matter, aesthetic expression, and organizational structure to meet the needs of complex expression content. Through Bogo literature, the authors made efforts to create outstanding literary value in a limited structure, and concluded that the structure was important in that it followed the internal laws of the material and helped express the material. Through these works, this thesis explores Harbin's various aspects, explains the literary value and historical significance of the works, and at the same time emphasizes the importance of research by providing new perspectives and materials for studying contemporary social culture and political topography.
