We propose an advanced goal-based asset allocation methodology that accommodates transaction costs and position limits. Our approach extends the framework introduced by Das et al. (2020) into a multi-period asset allocation model. Specifically, our model addresses a two-asset model involving an illiquid asset with transaction costs and a liquid asset without such costs. Our findings reveal that, even in the goal-based asset allocation model, the optimal investment strategy has a No-Transaction Region (NTR). Notably, this NTR expands with increased transaction costs, aligning with existing research in this domain. Additionally, we observe that a reduction in the upper position limit of the illiquid asset correlates with a diminished probability of goal achievement and a decrease in the optimal investment in the illiquid asset. To comprehensively assess the impact of various model parameters on the optimal investment strategy and validate the model's practical applicability, we conduct extensive numerical analyses.
