The purpose of this study was to classify the types of people in four Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam) regarding their preference for the Korean Wave and understand the characteristics of each potential group. To this end, a latent profile analysis was conducted using raw data on Korean Wave content preferences, and a difference analysis was conducted to identify the characteristics of each latent group, focusing on differences in preference for Korean Wave content, Korean image, and intention to visit Korea. . As a result of the classification of latent groups through latent profile analysis, a total of 6 groups were derived, each named as fashion beauty food preference type, Korean Wave non-preference type, Korean Wave indifferent type, practical Korean Wave preference type, friendly Korean Wave preference type, and enthusiastic Korean Wave preference type. Although there were many groups who liked the Korean Wave, more than 45.7% were indifferent to or disliked the Korean Wave. By country, in Thailand, there were many people who enthusiastically preferred the Korean Wave, but there were also many people who did not prefer the Korean Wave compared to other countries. In Indonesia, there were many people who preferred the Korean Wave, but surprisingly, people who did not prefer the Korean Wave accounted for the highest proportion among the four Southeast Asian countries. Among the four Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam's enthusiastic preference for the Korean Wave was slightly lower than Thailand's, but it had the smallest number of people who did not prefer the Korean Wave. Malaysia had a relatively small group of people who passionately liked or strongly disliked the Korean Wave, and most of them had a moderate preference for the practical Korean Wave. It appeared that there were many preferred types. The potential group that likes the Korean Wave had a high proportion of women, were in their 20s and 30s, and had high levels of education and income. In conclusion, it would be desirable to mitigate excessive violence or exposure of Korean Wave content, be wary of Korean chauvinism, expand the number of Korean Wave fans, and promote inbound marketing strategies through the Korean Wave. In addition, it suggested that there is a need to approach the study while taking into account the characteristics of each country and the differences in attitudes of each potential group.
