This study aims to analyze interjections included in Korean language textbooks for beginners and intermediate learners published in China. It investigates their frequency, functions, and offers suggestions for future improvements. The findings can be summarized as follows. Firstly, the textbooks predominantly feature interjections such as ‘네 (yes)’ and ‘그래 (okay),’ with a very low occurrence of other interjections. Furthermore, there is a lack of explicit explanation of these interjections in the textbooks. Secondly, the textbooks primarily focus on the semantic function of interjections in expressing preferred responses, providing limited coverage of the semantic function of interjections in non-preferred expressions and utterance progression. Therefore, it is recommended to increase the frequency of interjections other than ‘네 (yes)’ and ‘그래 (okay)’ in textbooks and incorporate a greater emphasis on non-preferred expressions and the semantic functions related to utterance progression. This study holds significance as it provides valuable reference material for the development of teaching materials for Chinese learners of Korean. (Sungkyunkwan University)
