The term and conceptual framework of ‘diaspora’, which began to appear in the Korean modern literature field since the 2000s, was a literary phenomenon and discourse that criticized the attributable territory and native language principle of Korean literature, questioned the topology of Korean literature vs. world literature. This study tried to critically examine the flow of diaspora literature research/criticism in the Korean contemporary literature field over the past 20 years. And this paper tried to gauge the future direction of diaspora literature research by reviewing the current discourse topography on movement/migration/separation. In the meantime, ‘Diaspora’ is meaningful in that it has not only expanded the domain of Korean literature and allowed to think abundantly about the internal and external boundaries that make up the nation and the state, but also enabled complex interdisciplinary dialogue. However, diaspora literature research focused on discovering beings that could be named diaspora, and due to the work of this naming and classification, they were easily immobilized and historicized. As a result, no progress has been made beyond the initial discussion regarding the potential or movement for their ontology. Therefore, it is necessary to think again about the potential of cultural and political planning or practice of diaspora ontology, not a assimilationist view developed in the name of multiculturalism, without presupposing nationalistic sentiment or the possibility of return. When discussions on refugees or refugeeized lives began to emerge, analysis frameworks and methodologies are required for those who have potential for resistance and liberation, without immobilizing/abstracting non-deterministic and uncertain beings.
