This article examines the ancient to modern iron-making sites in the Jeonnam region, and examines the technical level and characteristics of the time by period. The changes in the production and distribution system of ironware in the Yeongsan River basin during the Three Kingdoms Period, which shows many remains, were identified. To this end, the current status of ironware production sites in Jeonnam area was investigated, and characteristics of each process were presented according to the period. Furthermore, the hierarchical relationship between the smelting, casting, and smithing processes was confirmed, and changes in iron production and distribution structures changed according to the timing were estimated, focusing on the age of the Three Kingdoms in the Yeongsang River basin. Accordingly, iron production and related facilities began to appear in villages in the lower Yeongsan River basin in the 4th century, and developed into specialized production workshops after the middle of the 5th century. Since the middle of the 5th century, the appearance of professional ironware production workshops has been attributed to the appearance of smelting facilities and the development of distribution systems using waterways. On the other hand, the iron-making sites of Jeonnam region during the Middle and Modern Period have something in common that is limited to the Joseon Period, and differences in structural diversity and raw materials such as box-shaped furnaces, circular furnaces, and Seburi furnaces are also identified. Therefore, there is a limit to deriving regional characteristics. And, it is difficult to find a continuous change in the history of iron-makingng because there are few examples of the Unified Silla and Goryeo periods that connect the Three Kingdoms and Joseon periods. However, the results of the recent survey on the local government-run steelworks during the Joseon Period, which was conducted and reported in recent years, are worth noting.
