Hong Xiao, Kyung-ae Kang, and Haruko Ushijima are prominent female writers representing China, Chosun, and Japan, respectively during the Manchukuo period. They all had shared a similar historical background from 1920 to 1940. All three artists have a common background factor that they moved to Manchukuo for a period of time and performed their works. However, among the three female writers, a contradiction between the logic of the ruling class people in the Japanese colonial era and the logic of the people of the colony had existed. Furthermore, as educated women in the process of westernization of society, away from traditional women, Hong Xiao, Kyung-ae Kang, and Haruko Ushijima all had shared the belief that women are survival values and equality between men and women. To sum up, among the three female writers, they had ①Representative, ②Historical similarity, ③ Geographical/Spatial similarity, ④Different viewpoints, and ⑤Similar cultural background. This study examines life of these female writers as a woman centering on their autobiographical novels. Through the individual experiences of women’s life in the novels or in female writers’ own, this paper discusses new female images in the Manchukuo period.
