Located in East Asia, Korea, China and Japan have historical and cultural backgrounds that are associated with each other. This study looked at the role and the function of white space in poster design by dividing them into formative and emotional functions to see how these white space of Korea, China and Japan each capture Asian ideology. Through this, the paper aims to understand how Asian sensibility works specifically on the white space, and further revealed the relationship between white space and formativeness. In the second chapter, in order to understand the white space, firstly observe the cultural characteristics, thoughts and formation of Korea, China and Japan, and then summarize the significance of white space as a tool for expressing ideas. In the third chapter, in order to grasp the role of white space in poster design, it classifies the formation whiteness of western poster and eastern poster, and then classifies the difference of their roles. In the fourth chapter, in order to understand the roles and difference of white space in Korean, Chinese and Japanese poster design, the white space works classified in chapter 3 are analyzed. The results are as follows. In the poster design of Korea, China and Japan, the white space as a bridge to connect the oriental philosophy. The difference between the oriental white space and the western white space is also reflected in the poster design of Korea, China and Japan. In the design of Korean, Chinese and Japanese posters, the white space formation and perceptual functions are different in different countries. The white space of Korea has the character of meaning, important and simple. The white space in China pays attention to the huge space, which has the characteristics of combining reality with fiction. Japanese pays attention to the lines and simple planes.
