The purpose of this paper is to identify the relationship between expository preaching and the Reformed Life Theology. For the restoration and revival of the church stuck in an ironic situation inwhich it suffers from the famine “of hearing the words of the Lord (Amos 8:11)” despite the availability of a great deal of sermons and preachers, this research intends to assure the readers of the value and importance of expository preaching by identifying the relation of expository preaching to the Reformed Life Theology. In this paper, the researcher would focus on the three (out of five) Reformed Life Theology slogans (sola Scriptura, solus Christus, and soli Deo Gloria) in an attempt to demonstrate how these slogans are linked to expository preaching, which the researcher believes should be considered as a preaching philosophy not as a preaching methodology. In many cases, people would think that expository preaching isone kind of preaching among the various available preaching options. To put it differently, people would consider expository preaching as a methodology. The researcher, however, would contend that every genuine Christian sermon be an expository one and that expository preaching be considered not as a methodology but as a philosophy. To accomplish this purpose, the paper will discuss Haddon Robinson’s definition of expository preaching, along with the preaching theories of John Stott, Bryan Chapell, and John Piper.
