The purpose of this study is to present a middle school music listening instructional plan applying Gagné's theory of learning based on the 2015 revised music curriculum. In order to prepare the instructional plan, this study first examined the meaning of appreciation in the 2015 revised middle school music curriculum and music education, and then examining the form of an instrumental ensemble and instruments, the main content of the class, analyzed Gagné's instructional design theory, which is the theoretical background, and based on this, a second class music listening instructional plan was prepared. Three experts were asked to test the validity of the prepared instructional plan, and based on the results, the instructional plan was revised and supplemented to conduct music classes for first-year middle school students. After that, a final revised and supplemented instructional plan was presented by synthesizing the students' evaluation of the class and the self-review of this researcher. The final music appreciation instruction plan presented in this study was prepared by sufficiently reflecting Gagné's class situation. Since the class situation provides external conditions that promote the learner's inner cognitive process, effective instruction is possible to achieve the class goal by enhancing students' understanding of the content. This can compensate for the shortcomings of the existing lecture-style class, and it was confirmed that students' participation can be increased by conducting various activities suitable for each situation. In the music appreciation class of this study applying the class situation, after learning the type of instrumental ensemble and the classification of woodwind and brass instruments, the contents of the two sessions were naturally linked through various activities in each situation, and the characteristics of wind instruments could be effectively appreciated. I hope that the results of this study will be helpful to teachers who plan effective music listening classes on instrumental organization and instruments, and that music class research applying Gagné's class situation will be activated so that students can ultimately enjoy music in their lives through systematic classes.
