Iranian cinema stands out for its unique visual style, influenced by various factors such as politics, economics, war, and religion. The Islamic Revolution brought about significant changes in Iranian society and culture, leaving Iranian directors with a limited creative space and restricted subject matter. As a result, they turned their attention to ancient history and culture, presenting a different Iran to the world through a unique perspective. Iranian cinema combines both the subtle beauty of Eastern aesthetics and the speculative art of Western philosophy, exploring the ideal of moral purity in the intricate and mundane affairs of life. Its form and substance are worthy of profound examination and reflection. Marjane Satrapi is an Iranian female film director who immigrated to France. Her multicultural background and racial identity give her films a cross-border characteristic, blending both Iranian realism and French romanticism. This paper analyzes the uniqueness of her film themes and gender consciousness as Satrapi's understanding of identity and racial awareness deepens, and explores her complex and contradictory emotions towards Iran and the reasons behind them. Skillfully incorporating multiculturalism and identity confusion into her audiovisual language, her superb aesthetic expression and ability to integrate different cultures facilitate her free use of lines, composition, color, and light to alleviate the oppressive and heavy atmosphere brought by serious themes. Analyzing Marjane Satrapi's identity helps to understand Iran's social reality and is an important complement to the study of her film style. The main structure of this paper is as follows: In the introduction, the research purpose, necessity, previous research, and research content and methods are presented. Chapter two discusses multiculturalism from a theoretical perspective, analyzing the causes of Marjane Satrapi's multicultural background and its manifestations in her work. Chapter three mainly analyzes Satrapi's personal experiences and creations, as well as the external factors influencing her work, such as political demands, religious undertones, and women's rights. Meanwhile, the chapter discusses the opposition of philosophical ideas, including Persian dualism, Islamic cosmology, and the concept of "harmony" in Western philosophy. In chapter four, the paper explores Marjane Satrapi's film language under the influence of multiculturalism, including narrative structure, audiovisual style, and female character portrayal. Chapter five analyzes the theme selection, character building, and film values in Satrapi's films under the influence of multiculturalism. Chapter six focuses on the discussion of multiculturalism and Marjane Satrapi's self-identity, involving self-subject fragmentation, women's status demands, and self-identity recognition in the context of cultural conflict. The final chapter summarizes the research's summary and significance, as well as the limitations and implications of the research. Through an in-depth analysis of Marjane Satrapi's multicultural background and her works, this paper aims to reveal the impact of multiculturalism on her creations, contributing to a deeper understanding of filmmaking and its value in a cross-cultural context.
