The purpose of this study is to explore and implement interventions to support the regulation of negative emotions in multicultural toddlers aged 3 through an action research study, and to examine the changes that occur in the toddlers during the process. For this reason, The following research questions were selected. Research question 1. What is the process of action research to support the negative emotion regulation of toddlers in multicultural families using picture books? Research question 2. What are the changes in infants during the process of an action research study to support negative emotion regulation of infants in multicultural families using picture books? The action research was conducted from September 28th, 2022 to December 31st, 2022, and the research subjects were 3-year-old children from multicultural families. Prior to the pilot study, we observed that the toddler's emotions were mostly negative and expressed through strong behaviors and difficulties in emotional regulation. As the development of infants is highly individualized, and due to the special nature of infants in multicultural families, it was necessary to revise and supplement the plan several times while conducting the research, so we conducted an action research, which consisted of three courses. The results of the action research are summarized as follows. First, through the acquisition of emotional vocabulary, the infants in the study were able to express more accurate and diverse emotions than before. They also osed Korean vocabulary more naturally, which increased their confidence in language expression. Second, negative emotion regulation was observed by correctly expressing negative emotions. This not ohly helped to reduce their aggressive behavior, but also to learn how to cope with negative emotions. Third, it helped them form positive relationships with others, including peers, teachers, and parents. In addition, unlike the children who were afraid or unfamiliar with interacting with others at the beginning of the study, as the implementation study progressed, we observed that they spontaneously spoke directly to their peers, teachers, and parents and made physical contact. Given the findings that children from multicultural families are relatively vulnerable in terms of emotional development, it is hoped that research on negative emotion regulation in children from multicultural families, such as this study, will provide support and be the basis for solving problems related to multicultural families.
