As is well known, since 2010, discussions on blends have been rapidly emerging among the types of neologisms. Unlike existing compound words and derivative words, blends have an unpredictable output in a given input situation, so discussions have progressed in various fields, but opinions do not seem to be converged. In particular, opinions are divided about the morphological status of ‘splinters‘, which are components of blends. Above all, there is a lack of an integrated discussion that embraces the morphological structure, formation method, semantic relationship, meaning realization method, and semantic core distribution of blends. In this paper, the morphological, semantic, and other characteristics of blends were dissected in detail and discussed in an integrated manner based on the basis of re-examining the problems of blends. In chapter 1, conceptual comparisons of compound words and adjacent conceptual words discussed in previous studies, aspects of morphological structure, and other characteristics, morphological status of splinters, components of blends, analogical analysis of blends in the formation mechanism and semantic aspect, while re-examining the points of discussion in the six aspects of the meaning relationship and the method of realizing meaning, some opinions are accepted to some extent, the part to be supplemented, the part that has not been discussed, and the difference in position from this paper The need for research was presented by clarifying them. In chapter 2, first of all, the conceptual definition of blends was reestablished, and the distinction points with adjacent conceptual words were listed, clearly presenting the boundaries, and morphological types were also examined. In addition, in a dichotomous way about regarding the status of the word blends, ‘complete blends’ were classified into a single word, while ‘semi-complete blends’ were proposed as a subtype of compounds word. In chapter 3, based on the aspect of morphological structure, it is classified into two types with simple structure and a complex structure, and here, the simple blends are further classified into a complete blends and a semi-complete blends. It was revealed that the blends involving the ‘δ-type’ clipped from the trailing source word was a typical pattern. This phenomenon revealed the tendency for words with long syllable length to be placed on the right side of the words participating in blends. In addition, it has a great correlation with the phonological restriction characteristics, and in particular, the phenomenon of maintaining the number of syllables in the trailing base word has been proven to be the dominant formation principle. In chapter 4, clarifies the objection to the opinion that the morphological status of splinters, which are components of blends, is to be treated as close to pseudo-affixes and pseudo-roots. which is a component of blends and gathered opinions that it is only a dedicated word element in the process of forming blends. In addition, in the formation of blends, it was initially formed by the involvement of clipping and merging mechanism, but the phenomenon of transition to a new formation method was examined by the formation of an analogical framework as the splinters created during the formation process were shared as fixed terms. In chapter 5, by using the deduction method, the semantic relationship of the internal components of blends is classified into associative and syntagmatic relationships, and associative relationships are further classified into paradigmatic and non-paradigmatic relationships. In semantic realization, it is classified into direct modifier, indirect modifier, and mutual connection type. And here, as an indirect modifier is classified as simile and metaphors to observe blends in detail. As a result, it was observed that it was formed through various meaning relationships and meaning realization processes. In the distribution of semantic head, there were quite a few blends with exocentric character, and even in blends with endocentric, it was revealed that semantic head were distributed on the left side that violated the existing right-side key word rule. In chapter 6, the irregularity and regularity of blends were discussed, and the main contents of this paper were summarized by presenting various factors, characteristics, and formation mechanisms involved in the formation of blends. Finally, the significance, limitations and inadequacies of this study were presented.
