With the development of animation industry, more and more audiences of different ages begin to pay attention to animation works. Animation, which seemed to be limited to children, has gradually become an aging trend. Therefore, in the face of an increasingly large audience, designers in the animation industry should think more about how to convey humanistic concern to the audience in the animation works.Humanistic concern is a form of humanism, which originated in Europe in the 16th century, tends to care for human individuality, emphasizes the maintenance of human dignity, advocates tolerant secular culture, opposes violence and discrimination, advocates freedom, equality and self-worth, and has developed into a philosophical trend of thought and world outlook. The ideas conveyed by humanism are consistent with the ideas (correct worldview and values) that animation works should convey to the audience. In today's animation creation, more and more animation creators will consider humanistic elements when conceiving animation themes and designing animation characters. This paper also discusses the influence of national painting art elements on animation characters. National painting art, is the symbol and embodiment of the country, and also endows animation characters with certain cultural connotations. Audiences will be attracted by the animated films and characters belonging to their own ethnic groups while watching them, and create a cultural resonance with them. Therefore, the integration of national artistic elements in the creation of animation characters can increase the artistic value of the characters and attract the audience to make more contributions to the animation industry.Chinese animation and Japanese animation are very important components in the world animation genre. Chinese and Japanese animation designers have obvious differences in the design of animation characters in terms of shape and character. The author of this article believes that China and Japan both have their own cultural characteristics and their own unique painting art forms. At the same time, humanism is also a manifestation of a cultural approach. However, humanism is more universal. Based on the animation characters in the excellent animation works of China and Japan, this paper analyzes how Chinese and Japanese animation designers skillfully combine national painting art and humanistic concern in the design of animation characters. First of all, based on previous literature, the second chapter gives a new definition and understanding of humanism and national painting art (Focusing on Dunhuang art and ukiyo-e). In the third chapter, this study puts forward new views on animation character design, and puts forward solutions based on the existing problems in animation character design. The solutions are divided into six parts.Next, in the fourth and fifth chapters of this paper, this paper chooses the Nine-Colored Deer (Chinese animation) and the Mononoke (Japanese animation) to analyze. These two animations not only contain the artistic elements of national painting, but also reflect on human nature in the theme. At the same time, these two animations have also won many honors, the animation Nine Color Deer won the 1986 Hamilton International Animation Film Festival of Canada special Honor. Mononoke received the Silver Prize at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2013. The animation Mononoke has racked up more than 8 million full views, and it has an 8.3 rating on professional film review site IMDb (Figure 1).Finally, in the conclusion of this research, this paper analyzes the embodiment and combination of humanistic concern and national painting art elements in the character design of animation, and further analyzes how humanism and national painting art are reflected in these two animations(Nine Color Deer &Mononoke). In animation works, humanistic care is combined with national painting art, and the expression of humanistic care is based on national art.Key Words:1. National Painting Art 2. Humanistic Concern 3.
