Neuropsychological assessment needs cost-efficient diagnostic instruments because it requires considerable expenses. Moreover, Behavioral response time is considered as a marker of cognitive function because it is associated with neural functions. Most of the studies on response time(RT) thus far have limited to healthy elderly, and there has been no study of the motion response rate in the elderly with reduced recognition. Therefore, this study conducted the cognitive RT tests on the 30 normal elderly and 30 aMCI elderly, thereby comparing the performance values based on the ageing effect and cognitive ability, and trying to identify how the cognitive ability affects the process of information processing. Cognitive RT test includes three sub-domain tests such as motor, visual motor(number), and visual motor(symbol). The results of this study are as follows. First, in the total response time per three sub-domain tests of cognitive RT tests, the group of aMCI elderly exhibited a significantly slower performance than the group of normal elderly, and the group of elderly aged 70~79 showed a significantly slower performance than those aged 65~69. The group of elderly aged 70~79 showed a significantly more error rate than the group of elderly aged 65~69 in the motor test and the group of aMCI elderly exhibited a significantly more error rate than the group of normal elderly in the visual motor(symbol) test. Second, in the visual motor(symbol) test, the group of normal elderly demonstrated the error types in order of distortion error, preservation error, adjacent error, and no-response, whereas the group of aMCI elderly exhibited the error types in order of distortion error, preservation error, no-response error, and adjacent error. Third, in the group of aMCI elderly, total RT in the motor and visual motor(number) tests showed a significant negative correlation with delayed recall and recognition. The total RT in the visual motor(symbol) test showed a significant negative correlation with immediate recall, delayed recall and recognition, and the error rate showed a significant negative correlation with K-MoCA(Korean-Montreal Cognitive Assessment). The tools used in this study were the non-invasive tests, and this study has a great significance in that it can approach various cognitive domains with the feeling of playing games instead of a sense of evaluation. In this regard, therefore, it is hoped that the cognitive RT test can be used as a simple tool to predict cognitive disorders for the elderly in local communities.
