(Mulberry and Peach: Two Women of China)과 『의식』(Ceremony)을 분석 대상으로 삼았다.
In postcolonial situation, diasporic groups suffer from both geographical and psychological displacement. Neither homeland nor hostland culture is the consolation for their diaspora experiences, which eventually leads to the situation of cultural default and identity loss. So I argue for a new constitution of diaspora identity to provide diasporic groups with solutions for their sufferings. The study focuses on the problem of diaspora and diaspora identity. For the definition of diaspora, it emphasizes the aspect of psychological displacement as a determining factor in diaspora experiences. The attitudes towards homeland and hostland culture and the mental status of displaced groups decide whether they belong to diasporas or not. As for the issue of diaspora identity, I reckon it as a different concept from cultural identity in that it no longer believes in cultural myth and given discourses. Thus it can work out a way for diasporic groups to get rid of the repetitive identity performances and psychologically colonizing discourses. Then to gain power from other contexts rather than cultural context is assumed as a more feasible way for diasporas to succeed in their diaspora experiences. Two texts Mulberry and Peach: Two Women of China and Ceremony are analyzed here on both sides to elaborate my argument on the problem of diaspora identity. Mulberry and Peach: Two Women of China is the negative example that offered the unsuccessful diaspora experience because the protagonist is trapped in the pre-given identity performances. Ceremony, on the contrary, is the positive one that gives a successful example of demystification and decolonization of enforced identity to position the diaspora identity beyond the cultural context with the Ecological realization of nature.Conclusively, the study manages to show that a successful diaspora experience is the process of individual deconstruction of enforced discourse and reconstruction of self. In this way, it could be helpful to improve the miserable situation for diasporic groups.
