The present study examined whether Berry’s two-dimensional cultural adaptation model(integration, assimilation, separation and marginalization) is suitable for Chinese international students in Korea. This study also examined the differences in cultural adaptation stress, psychological wellness and school adaptation according to the acculturation types of Chinese international students. To this end, an online survey was conducted for 104 Chinese international students studying at the university located in D city. Data were analyzed with cluster analysis and ANOVA using SPSS 22.0 program. Results were as follows. First, Chinese international students were classified into three acculturation clusters(marginalization, integration and separation). However, the assimilation cluster was not found. Second, there were statistically significant differences in cultural adaptation stress, psychological wellness and school adaptation according to the acculturation types of Chinese international students. The integration type showed good adaptation to school life by experiencing the lowest cultural adaptation stress and feeling high psychological wellness. On the contrary, the separation type was found to experience the highest cultural adaptation stress, lower psychological wellness, and maladaptation to school life. These results were discussed in connection with previous studies. It was suggested that diverse support in terms of culture, education, and living is needed in order to help Chinese international students adjust well in Korea.
