As one of the practitioners of public performance in small theaters in Republic of Korea and China, I am concerned with the development of the performance put on by small theaters in the two countries, in fact, performance of small theaters covers a small proportion in the cultural market of all the countries, compared to the movie industry with ten million yuan of box office and commercial theaters with extravagant stages where stars converge, small theaters appear very small in terms of investment scale, market share and influence. Despite their small size, the performance in small theaters is very fresh and alive, and are closer to the audience in terms of space and psychology. In view of the development history of the small theaters in the two countries, in the development process of the recent decade, although there has been downturn stages, during some periods, the topics of these movies were vulgar. In general, dramas in small theaters are more and more favored by dramatists in modern times. In recent years, performance in small theaters is more and more welcome by young people. The development of small theaters in the two countries started at approximately the same time, but the two countries have different development routes, in recent years, the performance in small theaters has gradually grown to be a fashionable art form welcome by young people from a minor art. After small theaters in Republic of Korea experienced recession of performance market and economic crisis, their practitioners were still full of passion in creation. Given the revision of public performance bills, small theater performance market in Republic of Korea provides a fat soil for the development of small theater performance in terms of concentration of theaters, the number of fixed audience, governmental policy and passion in creation. Small theater industry in Republic of Korea represented by Daehangno has formed a relatively mature and complete performing art industrial chain, providing an example for the learning and reference of the development of small theater performance in all countries in Asia. On the other hand, performance in small theaters in China first underwent cruel political revolution and then experienced severe market ordeal, many private theaters have been developed out of the singular form of state-owned theaters, creating more possibilities for the development of the market of small theater performance. Small theater performance market in big cities represented by Beijing and Shanghai are catering to the market needs, developing and expanding rapidly, but compared with Republic of Korea, the completeness of the industrial chain, the number of audience, and the number of annual performance need further cultivation and development. China is close to Republic of Korea geographically, the two countries have intimate communication and connection in various aspects such as culture and art. Both countries have a great many similarities in terms of cultural origin and aesthetic habits. Through analysis, research and comparison of the features of performance in small theaters of the two countries, it may be possible to explore more significant small theater business mode. The analysis and discussion of the paper will center around the topic of the business strategies of public performance in small theaters in China and Republic of Korea. The paper is mainly divided into three parts First of all, in order to compare the business strategies of small theater performance in the two countries, some marketing concepts needed in the research of the paper are investigated and studied, and the history and development process of the small theaters in the two countries are explored. Through literature research of the industry in two countries, the historical process of small theater performance in the two countries and the research achievement and tendency in the industry are sorted out. Secondly, introduce the current condition of development of small theaters in the two countries through the four successful small theater performance management cases represented by Seoul and Beijing, and centering around marketing mix 4p, the author discusses and analyzes the current condition of development of small theater performance in the two countries, before analyzing the differences and similarities of the successful cases in terms of the management of small theaters in the two countries. Finally, the author interviews five experts (five in Republic of Korea and 5 in China) in the field of small theater performance management in two countries, and reorganizes the interview result of 10 experts with the perspective of marketing mix 4p, so as to look into the current condition of the performance industry in the two countries and discuss the problems and achievements in various aspects of the management of small theaters in the two countries. On the basis of the examples of the two countries and the experts’ reply, centering around marketing 4P, and some humble suggestions on the market of small theater performance in the two countries are concluded: First of all, from the perspective of product, in most of the successful cases, the quality of works is very excellent, therefore, the quality of the work itself is the greatest guarantee of successful marketing. Secondly, the performance in small theaters in China should not only attract the audience through marketing, but also cultivate fixed audience. While Republic of Korea tries to develop new audience groups while the fixed audience is nearly saturated. There is an old saying in China that goes like” know yourself and know your enemy, and you can fight a hundred battles with no danger of defeat.” Only when the market and audience are truly understood, can the goal of profiting be attained. Therefore, at the present stage, it is necessary to carry out various investigations on the small theater market in China. Secondly, in terms of price, the price of tickets in the small theaters of the two countries is the same, but the production costs differ greatly, Republic of Korea has its own fixed audience group, perfect performance bills and regulations, diverse governments and the support of consortium and the government, while most small theaters of China can’t afford production expense, especially basic production costs, not to mention marketing and promotion, only when China improves performance market supporting policies and production companies actively seek enterprises for cooperation can the burden on capital be alleviated to a certain degree. Thirdly, from the point of view of selection of theaters, at the present stage, China should set up more professional small theaters to improve the shortage of small theater venues, extortionate rent of theaters and long time of queuing at the present stage. Finally, from the point of view of promotion, through analysis in the paper, we can find that while promotion of small theater performances, the following four strategies can be regarded as effective: the publicity mode with multiple channels and large scale, business cooperation with special publicity companies, emphasis on social network publicity and consistent and periodical publicity mode.
